More Information about Pack 1455:

We meet as a pack at least once a month for fun activities for the whole family at the VFW in Pepperell. Siblings are always welcome to participate in Pack activities. Pepperell Cub Scouts is a family oriented group focused on outdoor adventure, community involvement, and having “fun with a purpose.”

Cub Scout packs are divided into smaller groups called dens. Dens consists of about five to eight boys, by rank (generally in the same grade):

  • Tigers - First Grade (or age 7)
  • Wolves - Second Grade (or age 8)
  • Bears - Third Grade (or age 9)
  • Webelos - Fourth Grade (or age 10)
  • Arrow of Light - Fifth Grade

Our cub scout dens have additional meetings or outings throughout the month.  Boys can start cub scouts at any level. They do not have to begin as Tigers.

The 10 purposes of Cub Scouting are:

Character Development, Spiritual Growth, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship and Fitness,  Family Understanding, Respectful Relationships, Personal Achievement, Friendly Service, Fun and Adventure

Why join Scouting?

Ask the boys and they will tell you it’s a lot of fun and they’re right. However, while they are having fun a lot of learning and growing occurs. Cub Scouts is a family (not just boy) program designed to develop character, good citizenship, good sportsmanship, life skills and strong families. Cub Scouts helps boys learn to be helpful, to respect other people and to strive to do one’s best.

Brief History of Pack 55 in Pepperell:

  • In 2000, Council decided there was enough interest in Pepperell to start-up a new Cub Scout pack and the Pepperell Lions Club, with Richard Douglas as Charter Representative, offered to charter our new organization.  Instead of forming a new pack with boys of all ages, Council decided to try a new approach by starting with just a Tiger den and each year adding new Tiger dens while advancing the current boys.  In six years, Spring 2006, we had a full pack with several of our original Tiger den crossing over into Boy Scouts.
  • The pack began with three parents - Marty Gill, cubmaster; Kim Simonich and Lori Flournoy, committee members.  We spent many afternoons the spring and summer of 2001 with Den Connors and Craig Williams, Unit Commissioners, learning how to start-up and run a pack.
  • Our first Tiger Den formed in the Fall of 2001 with Den Leader Jean Winship and Tiger Cubs Andrew, Andrew, David, Angus, Michael, and Alex.
  • Recognizing that we were such a small pack, Pack 41 invited us to join them for their Blue and Gold dinner.  Our tigers were able to enjoy their first Blue and Gold dinner with the festivities of a full pack including an Arrow of Light ceremony.
  • Our first recruitment night was held at Peter Fitzpatrick Elementary School.  Troop 13 and Troop 26 scouts provided activities for the boys to enjoy.  Chuck Walkovich, Scoutmaster Troop 13, made his famous chili that evening for all to enjoy.
  • For the first 4 years we did not have a Crossover ceremony, we had a "cross-under" ceremony to advance rank.  The Cub Scouts loved diving under the table to "cross" to the next rank.  The tradition continued even when we had Webelo Scouts ready to crossover to Boy Scouts.
  • In the Spring of 2011 the pack produced it' First Eagle Scout, David Flournoy from Troop 13 in Pepperell (http://troop13pepperell.org/) where you will see his name among many others from the Troop on their Eagle Scout Honor Role page http://troop13pepperell.org/node/1055.
  • In the fall of 2014, Pepperell's two cub scout packs (Pack 14 and Pack 55) decided to join forces to create a more unified scouting experience in town... and Pack 1455 was born.
